1. "this" bize yakın olan tekil bir nesneyi göstermek için kullanılır. Türkçe anlamı "bu" dur. "that" bize uzak olan tekil bir nesneyi işaret etmek için kullanılır. Türkçe anlamı "şu" dur.
this + singular noun .....
that + singular noun .....
(kitap yakınımda ve elimle tuturak gösteriyorum.) this book (=bu kitap)
(resim uzakta ve işaret ediyorum.) that picture (=şu resim)

2. "these" bize yakın olan çoğul nesneleri göstermek için kullanılır. Türkçe anlamı "bunlar" dır. "those" bize uzak olan çoğul nesneleri işaret etmek için kullanılır. Türkçe anlamı "şunlar" dır.
these + plural noun .....
those + plural noun .....
(kitaplar yakınımda ve elimle tuturak gösteriyorum.) these books (=bu kitaplar)
(resimler uzakta ve işaret ediyorum.) those pictures (=şu resimler)

3. Tekil nesneleri işaret ederken "is", çoğul nesneleri işaret ederken "are" kullanılır.
What is this? It is a cat.
What is that? It is a bird.
What are these? They are buttons.
What are those? They are planes.
